Mendak Tirta
Oil on Canvas
45 × 72 cm
Mendak Tirta is a traditional Balinese ritual procession connected to agriculture, spirituality, and harmony with nature. In Balinese, “Mendak” means to escort and “Tirta” means holy water. The ritual represents the community escorting sacred holy water from mountains or other elevated sacred places, believed to be the dwelling places of gods and goddesses.
The holy water is brought back to bless the land, protect crops, and ensure balance during the farming season. Balinese farmers perform this ritual to pray for fertile soil, protection from bad climate, freedom from insect disturbances, and the healthy growth of their gardens and rice fields.
The painting captures the spirit of communal devotion, ceremonial procession, and the deep connection between Balinese culture, spirituality, and agriculture.
